Transfix Foundational Updates

Under my direction when I arrived, we made some critical foundational updates to our design system as well as our navigation for our internal brokerage tool. Our design system lacked organization, correct component structure, usage criteria, and proper variations.

Transfix Redesign Global Navigation - Internal Brokerage Tool

This project addresses usability challenges with the existing navigation as noted in ongoing user research, including pages that may be wrongly categorized, hidden pages, and tasks that were underutilized based on duplication and analytic reviews. Additionally, we noted that users currently have a lot of tabs open and windows to streamline their work flow. The objective is to replace the existing navigation with the updated design, which will be done in a phased approach. The long term solution will involve an updated navigation structure with new top-level categories, along with the right hand utility navigation.

The outcome of this redesign was increased user efficiency, surfaced hidden pages that were not accessible from the original navigation, and more mobile and breakpoint friendly to support the common use case of resized windows.

Considered all break points in the responsive design, since many of our users resize windows on desktop.

Design Iteration Based on User Feedback

Original Design

The original navigation had an outdated logo, duplicative content, hard-to-read calls to action, and non-scalable framework for additional menu items.
